Re-presenting Place

This is a module that helps the student in the way they express the experience, their feeling, the poetics of a space, a street or a city. In which is very important for a student when they are trying to communicate their idea and direction of to how they wants their spaces to function and what feelings and experience can their design bring their users.

Project 1 - Urban Veranda Analysis

Looking at a simple place with only short shadings and a 6 - feet walkway over their front. It was never thought to be a great topic to explore as there were very few features to look into in comparison to other parts that build up a city.

Despite its simplicity, after our analysis, it became so much more than what we have initially thought.

CHANGKAT BUKIT BINTANG - A night flower that blooms in the night

1. The 6 - feet walkway

2. The short shading

3. The road

4. The setback of buildings from the walkway

Instead of just being an ordinary shophouse in an ordinary street, the shophouses in Changkat promotes a journey that brings in their customer from afar. From walking on the road, then to the entrance of each shophouses, lastly into each of their interiors. The carefully designed layout of shophouses is able to draw your attention from far and then drag you into their business.

Project 1 - Abstract Artwork

Breaching Through Boundaries

Changkat as a street of shophouses which extends their business from their individual shop boundaries, to the road, the streets right in front of them.

Designed based on the idea of going through the boundaries which were pre-setup. The black colour frames, expresses a solid boundary that encloses the shards that were trying to spread through it. But when the lights are gone, the black frame blends into darkness, leaving only the shards expressing its movement in every way it could, in every direction, every variation. Imitating the strong intention of taking attention from the pedestrians that pass by the streets of Changkat.
